STEVEN APODACA WAS ON HIS GAME ONCE AGAIN. HE WOULD END THE DAY WITH A SILVER MEDAL ON THE BIGGEST MOST TOUGH TOURNAMENT WE HAVE EVER ATTENDED. HE WOULD LOSE A HEART BREAKER IN THE SECOND ROUND IN OVERTIME. THE CALL WAS WAY OUT OF HAND AND BY NO MEANS A FAIR CALL. STEVEN BEING THE CHAMPION THAT HE IS HE DIDNT CRY OR COMPLAIN ONLY GOT MAD AND MADE HIM WRESTLE THAT MUCH HARDER. STEVEN WOULD HAVE A LONG HARD DAY OF WRESTLING BOTH DAYS. HE MADE QUICK AND EASY WORK OUT OF MOST OF HIS OPPONENTS. HE WOULD EVENTUALLY WRESTLE THE BOY THAT SENT HIM TO THE CONSOLATION SIDE OF THE BRACKET. HE WOULD THEN SHOW THAT LUCK RUNS OUT AND YOU CANT BEAT STEVEN TWICE IN ONE DAY. STEVEN WOULD PIN HIM THE SECOND TIME IN THE SECOND PERIOD. WINNING THIRD STEVEN WOULD HAVE A CHANCE TO WRESTLE BACK. HE WOULD WAIT ALL DAY FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY. WITHIN THE FIRST COUPLE SECONDS HE WOULD END UP ON HIS BACK THE MOVE WAS DEEP AND WE FEARED THE WORST AS WE HAD LITTLE HOPE THAT HE WOULD GET OUT. STEVEN SHOWED WHAT PRIDE AND HEART ARE ALL ABOUT. HE WOULD GET OUT AND ONLY GOD KNOWS HOW. FIRST PERIOD ENDS WERE DOWN 5 TO 0 AND WE CHOOSE DOWN. STEVEN WOULD THEN GET A DEFENSE PIN AND WIN THAT MATCH. GREAT JOB STEVEN PRIDE IS WHAT YOU HAVE
DRAYGON COLONESSE WAS THE ONLY DURAN WRESTLER TO WALK THE PARADE OF CHAMPIONS AND REPRESENT OUR TEAM ON THE BIG SPEAKER. IT WAS SO AWESOME TO BE PART OF THIS. HE WOULD EARN A TRIP TO THE SHIP BY WRESTLING VERY HARD AND IMPRESSIVE. NOTHING COMES EASY AND HE KNEW THAT. IN THE SEMIS WAS HIS TIME TO SHINE. A SHORT COUPLE MONTHS AGO HE LOST BY TECH FALL TO THE SAME BOY STANDING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CIRCLE. HE STOOD AND FACED FEAR IN THE EYE AND SHOWED WHAT HEART AND PRIDE WERE ALL ABOUT. IT WAS DRAYGON WHO WOULD WIN BY 14 POINTS THIS TIME. IT WAS HARD TO WATCH THIS NERVE RACKING MATCH AS HE WOULD GET CAUGHT IN A HEAD LOCK LATE IN THE THIRD. HE WOULD THEN GET THE SECOND DAY OFF AS HE SLEPT FOR MOST OF IT AND GOT PREPARED TO REPRESENT DURAN FOR A NATIONAL TITLE. THE ONLY CHANCE WE HAVE. WHEN OUR NUMBER WAS CALLED HE FELL SHORT. BUT NOT BY LACK OF EFFORT OR SKILL. HE WOULD LOSE A HEART BREAKER BY TWO POINTS AND HE WAS ABOUT TO SCORE NEAR FALL POINTS AT THE END. THEN AFTER THAT MATCH WE WERE CALLED TO THE MAT FOR A WRESTLE BACK. HE WOULD SPRINT DOWN AND I KNEW HE WAS TIRED FROM THE LONG RUN. SO I DID MY BEST TO HELP HIM CATCH HIS BREATH BUT REGARDLESS OF OUR EFFORTS HE STEPPED ON THE MAT AND WOULD WRESTLE AGAIN. HE WOULD LOSE BY ONE POINT AND HAD THE OPPONENT ON HIS BACK FOR THE LAST 20 SECONDS WE JUST COULDNT FINISH HIM OFF. DRAYGON THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR REPRESENTING OUR TEAM AND YOURSELF AT THIS TOURNAMENT. YOU ARE A GREAT WRESTLER AND WE ARE HONORED THAT YOU JOINED OUR TEAM FOR THIS BIG EVENT. THANK YOU. PRIDE IS WHAT YOU HAVE
KEITH BAILEY WAS THE OTHER DURAN WRESTLER TO EARN AN ELITE MEDAL. HE HAD A 6TH PLACE MEDAL AND HAD TO EARN EVERY BIT OF IT. KEITH WOULD WIN THE MATCH TO GET INTO THE MEDAL ROUND BY 3 POINTS AND A THRILLER TO SAY THE LEAST. KEITH WAS IN A BATTLE ZONE. THE POINTS WERE COMING AND GOING FOR EACH WRESTLER AND THE MATCH COULD HAVE WENT EITHER WAY. IT WAS KEITH WHO TOOK THE FINAL SHOT TAKING THE OPPONENT DOWN. THE BOY STOOD UP AND I WOULD TELL KEITH TO JUST HOLD ON SHORT TIME NO NEED FOR A MISTAKE. HE WOULD DO EXACTLY WHAT I ASKED OF HIM AND THE RESULT WAS A VICTORY. AFTER THE MATCH THE REF WOULD EVEN TELL ME I CANT TEACH THAT. AND I KNOW IT WASNT THE MOST HONORABLE THING TO DO BUT WE NEEDED TO WIN AT ALL COST. AND WIN WAS WHAT HE DID. HE WOULD ALSO HAVE TWO PINS ON THE DAY. KEITH WRESTLED VERY HARD AND AS A RESULT CAME HOME WITH A VERY HONORABLE MEDAL THAT ONLY THE BEST ATHLETES CAN RECEIVE GREAT JOB KEITH. PRIDE IS WHAT YOU HAVE
GREAT JOB Dakota! – All your hard work paid off! One teeny-tiny point away from tying the National Champ…..Still….. we are all very proud of you. And we are also very grateful to ALL your Duran coaches, but especially to Robert and Joe – who had to stay later than almost every single other person at the tournament, just to be there for you. THANKS GUYS!
Just wanted to thank all the Duran family’s and staff for welcoming us to your team. Jessica and I are very happy to be part of the team. Our son as learned so much in the little time he has been with Duran. Thank you all and we appreciate everything you guys do for the kids.

I couldn’t agree more with Coach D. Duran. All your coaches from Coach D himself, Coach R. Duran, Coach A. Duran, Coach R. Apodaca, Coach Maes, Coach Bailey and the others, have been instrumental in the growth of these young boys and girls. This wrestling club could not succeed without these coaches. 1st of all, these are not paid positions, this takes a certain kind of person with a good heart and tender hand in handling these young individuals. Coaches have to put up with good and bad comments. However, being a grandparent myself, I have been at many tournaments and have seen these Coaches in action. I must say that the DURAN outfit has been one, if not the BEST WRESLING CLUB I have seen. I am proud to say “KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK GUYS! YOU ROCK!! I really enjoy myself at these functions and I glad to be part of the team!!

Way to go girls!!! I am very very proud of you, you fought very hard to get here and walked off with your trophys. This year has been a hard year for the both of you but you just keep trying to succeed. Im proud that you ignore all the negativity you have been recieving for being a female wrestler! I can’t wait to see how well you do in Oklahoma City!! Keep up all your hard work. And as for Dad, I can’t say how much I appreciate the way you get involved in our kids wrestling and any other sport. You are showing our kids a very positive path and I thank you for that.
